The Hours After Project at the Center for Independent Documentary

Gerda's Lieutenant is an innovative new work for the stage based on the lives and love letters of the 87-year-old Gerda Weissman Klein and her late husband Kurt Klein, the American soldier who liberated Gerda after six years under Nazi rule. This remarkable true story of love, loss and survival is the centerpiece of an educational outreach program that we call The Hours After Project; our intention is to work with theaters, religious institutions, schools, and community groups across the country so that others may be inspired, as we have been, by Gerda and Kurt Klein's profound message of hope in the face of adversity. The Center for Independent Documentary, a non-profit media arts organization, supports the production and distribution of documentary film and theater projects.
